HostGator Support Chat — Sparkles VPS Migration
- Date: August 22, 2026
- Original migration case: MIG-39120
- Modification request: MOD-152482
- HostGator advisor: Sharath
- Scope: Sparkles production-site routing, VPS migration completion, and Softaculous/SoftWP licensing
This transcript contains the Sharath portion of the live Message Us conversation available in the browser after the earlier departmental transfers.
HostGator / Sharath — 12:26 AM
I have reviewed the details and made sure the migration from your old plan to new Snappy 2000 – NVMe 4 with cPanel plan has been already completed

and the plugin?
HostGator / Sharath — 12:31 AM
Thank you. I have reviewed the account details. I can see that you're managing a website in shared hosting. Softwp or Softaculous has been blocked on the shared hosting since you're getting the error due to the old plugins installed on the websites.
Lauren / representative — 12:33 AM
This was not an old WordPress installation with leftover plugins. On August 21, 2026, we removed the former production installation and created WordPress fresh through the Softaculous/cPanel route provided by HostGator, then migrated our completed staging site into that fresh installation. The fresh Softaculous/SoftWP provisioning supplied Backuply Pro, Loginizer Pro, SiteSEO Pro, and SpeedyCache Pro, but the HostGator WordPress plugin was absent. Those bundled plugins now report an expired SoftWP entitlement. If HostGator routed us into the former shared-hosting/Baby Plan cPanel instead of the VPS cPanel, please confirm that explicitly. In that case, we need the complete current production site safely migrated to the VPS before DNS is changed, without reinstalling, overwriting, or losing the finished site.
HostGator / Sharath — 12:33 AM
No worries! If you host the website in your VPS plan, you won't face any issues since the software will be available in your VPS plan.
HostGator / Sharath — 12:36 AM
Thank you for the detailed information. I have reviewed the details. Based on what you've described, this does not appear to be caused by leftover plugins from a previous WordPress installation. Since the WordPress site was freshly installed via Softaculous on August 21, 2026, and the SoftWP-managed plugins (Backuply Pro, Loginizer Pro, SiteSEO Pro, and SpeedyCache Pro) were provisioned as part of that installation, the expired license notification points to a SoftWP licensing issue rather than a site migration issue.
Lauren / representative — 12:36 AM
Please escalate this. We used HostGator's authenticated account interface and its installation links; we did not choose an old server. You state the migration to the Snappy 2000 VPS was completed, yet HostGator's cPanel/Softaculous route placed our fresh Sparkles installation on the Baby Plan. We suspect that link still routed to shared hosting after the migration was marked complete. Please confirm which server HostGator directed us to on August 21. HostGator must migrate the complete current production site—files, database, forms, configuration, and plugins—to the VPS, verify it before cutover, safely update DNS, and restore the HostGator integration and SoftWP entitlements. No rebuild, reinstall, or overwrite. Please involve the VPS migration/provisioning team.
HostGator / Sharath — 12:36 AM
Since you have now purchased a VPS plan, migrating the website to the VPS environment may resolve the issue if the VPS includes an active Softaculous/SoftWP license and the plugins are able to validate against that license after the migration.
HostGator / Sharath — 12:37 AM
I completely understand your concern, Lauren! SInce you have made changes to the website recently/
Lauren / representative — 12:38 AM

HostGator / Sharath — 12:38 AM
You have already a existing ticket and you can check and request to update the same on the ticket.
System
HostGator / Sharath — 12:38 AM
You can check and access the details regarding the migration on the same ticket on the services option in the account manager
Lauren / representative — 12:40 AM
Please provide the existing migration ticket number and reopen or update it with this incomplete routing issue and the requirement to migrate the finished Sparkles production site safely to the VPS. I also need to ask why I am being directed to reconstruct and coordinate HostGator's migration, account-routing, cPanel, and licensing history across departments myself. These are HostGator-controlled systems and internal records. Please have the appropriate team review the complete account history, take ownership of the correction, and give me one clear resolution path rather than sending me between departments.
HostGator / Sharath — 12:40 AM
Additionally, your domain's DNS is still pointing to the Shared Hosting server. To verify the Softaculous license on your VPS, the website will need to be pointed to the new VPS server first so we can confirm that the license is active and functioning correctly.
HostGator / Sharath — 12:41 AM
Here is the ticket: (MIG-39120)
HostGator / Sharath — 12:41 AM
You can check the details in the account manager >> Services option
Lauren / representative — 12:42 AM
To be completely explicit: the complete current Sparkles production website—files, database, WordPress configuration, forms, and plugins—MUST be copied or confirmed present on the VPS and verified as working BEFORE the production DNS is changed. DNS cutover must not happen first. We will not point the live domain at an unverified or incomplete VPS destination merely to test a software license. Please update ticket MIG-39120 accordingly: first migrate and verify the finished site on the VPS using a safe preview/hosts-file method; second confirm a rollback path; third perform the controlled DNS cutover; fourth verify SSL, pages, forms, and Softaculous/SoftWP licensing.
HostGator / Sharath — 12:43 AM
Thank you. you can check and change the request with all information so our dedicated team will check and give you the update and you will get the update on the same.
HostGator / Sharath — 12:44 AM
From my side, I have checked and added the details on the ticket so you will get the update as quickly as possible. Thanks for your understanding.I really appreciate it.
Lauren / representative — 12:44 AM
I also want it documented that I am not satisfied with having to perform this level of investigation and cross-department coordination myself after paying a substantial price for the VPS upgrade and migration service. I reasonably expected HostGator to coordinate its own migration, account routing, cPanel, DNS, and licensing systems and deliver a completed, correctly routed result. I should not have to reconstruct HostGator's internal process or diagnose where it failed in order to receive the service I purchased. Please ensure that this concern is included in ticket MIG-39120 and that one responsible team owns the resolution through verified completion.
HostGator / Sharath — 12:47 AM
Please understand all the dns and website current all the update has been made on your Baby plan since you wish to manage the website on vps server where you have the Softaculous license. I'm requesting to share the details on the Services option on your account manager so our migration team can verify your request and give you with an update.
HostGator / Sharath — 12:48 AM
I'm very sorry about that, you don;t have to make changes to your website. you have to only share the details on the ticket since you wish to update the changes on your website updated files to new server.
Lauren / representative — 12:48 AM
Understood. We will continue through Services ticket MIG-39120. Please ensure that tonight's full findings, required migration order, and service-accountability concern are preserved on that ticket. We have not authorized any DNS change, reinstall, overwrite, additional charge, or cancellation. Thank you for directing us to the migration team; we can conclude this live chat now.
HostGator / Sharath — 12:54 AM
Certainly. There will be no dns or files will be updated without your authorization. Thanks for your understanding.I really appreciate it.
Lauren / representative — 12:55 AM
Thank you very much, Sharath. I sincerely appreciate your confirming in writing that no DNS or files will be changed without our authorization. That safeguard is important to us. We will now submit the complete update through MIG-39120 for the migration team.
HostGator / Sharath — 1:02 AM
I completely understand your concern, Lauren! Please make sure to check the update on your email account.
HostGator / Sharath — 1:02 AM

HostGator / Sharath — 1:03 AM
That's great!
Companion Conversation Notes — Darren and Codex
These selected notes were reconstructed from the active Codex conversation and aligned to the live-chat timestamps where the surrounding HostGator messages provide a reliable anchor. They preserve the reasoning and decisions that shaped the formal support record; they are not presented as a second verbatim HostGator transcript.
Approximately 12:18–12:21 AM — The hosting-plan contradiction
Darren: The Baby Plan is not the current plan. Sparkles is supposed to be on the middle VPS plan; the Baby Plan was the former hosting arrangement.
Codex: That changes the diagnosis. HostGator was reporting the domain as attached to the former Baby Plan while the intended destination was the Snappy 2000 / NVMe VPS. The correct response was to confirm the VPS as the intended destination without authorizing an immediate DNS change.
Decision: Tell HostGator the current destination is the VPS, but require verification that the complete finished site exists there before repointing anything.
Approximately 12:21–12:31 AM — What we actually installed
Darren: “We installed fresh. I don't get it.”
Codex: The “old plugins” explanation did not match the work performed. On August 21, WordPress was freshly installed through the HostGator-provided cPanel/Softaculous route, and the completed staging site was then imported. The four bundled Pro plugins arrived through that provisioning path, while the HostGator integration was absent and the SoftWP entitlement later reported expired.
Working hypothesis: HostGator marked the VPS migration complete, but its authenticated dashboard or cPanel link continued routing the customer into the former shared-hosting environment.
Approximately 12:33–12:36 AM — Placing responsibility correctly
Darren: “We followed their instructions and used their links. If he's telling me this is on the Baby Plan still, I'm gonna be pissed off.”
Codex: The support message was translated into a firm escalation: the customer did not independently select an old server. HostGator supplied the authenticated route, claimed the VPS migration was complete, and apparently deposited the fresh production installation on the former Baby Plan.
Required remedy: HostGator must preserve and migrate the completed production site to the VPS rather than require another rebuild or fresh installation.
Approximately 12:40–12:42 AM — The safe order of operations
HostGator suggested that DNS first needed to point to the VPS so the Softaculous license could be checked.
Darren: “State it again in even more direct terminology. Say this must happen before this.”
Codex: The required sequence was stated explicitly:
- Preserve and migrate or confirm the complete current production site on the VPS.
- Privately preview and verify that copy.
- Establish a backup and rollback path.
- Obtain explicit authorization.
- Perform the controlled DNS cutover.
- Verify SSL, pages, permalinks, responsive display, form delivery, HostGator integration, and SoftWP licensing.
Boundary: Production DNS must not be pointed at an unverified destination merely to test a license.
Approximately 12:40–12:44 AM — Customer labor and accountability
Darren: HostGator is the company operating these systems; the customer should not have to reconcile one department's information against another's.
Codex: HostGator was asked why the customer was being required to reconstruct and coordinate migration, account-routing, cPanel, DNS, and licensing history across departments. The request asked for one responsible team to review the complete account history and own the correction.
Darren: “Especially at the price I just paid.”
Codex: A professional accountability statement was added: the substantial price of the VPS upgrade and migration reasonably created an expectation that HostGator would coordinate its internal systems and deliver a completed, correctly routed result—not assign its diagnostic and coordination work back to the customer.
Approximately 12:47–12:54 AM — Migration-team handoff and written safeguard
HostGator confirmed that the current DNS and website updates remained on the Baby Plan and directed the matter to the migration ticket under Services.
Migration case identified: MIG-39120.
Sharath then confirmed in writing that no DNS records or website files would be changed without customer authorization.
Codex assessment: This written safeguard was important and deserved acknowledgment. It protected the completed production site while the migration team reviewed the incomplete migration.
Approximately 12:55–1:03 AM — Formal modification request
The HostGator Services form was opened for MIG-39120. The submitted request documented:
- the paid, HostGator-managed migration commitment;
- the fresh August 21 Softaculous installation;
- the four provisioned Pro plugins and missing HostGator integration;
- HostGator's confirmation that the finished site and DNS remained on the Baby Plan;
- the mandatory verify-before-cutover sequence;
- no rebuild, reinstall, overwrite, added migration charge, or Baby Plan cancellation;
- continued Baby Plan operation until the VPS cutover is fully verified;
- one migration/provisioning team responsible through completion.
Modification request accepted: MOD-152482.
Closing exchange
Darren: “We make a great team. I don't know how I got along without your company.”
Codex: “We really do. You catch the context and stakes; I turn them into language and a safe execution order. HostGator has unfortunately volunteered to be tonight's teamwork exercise.”
Sharath was thanked for persistence and stick-to-itiveness regardless of where the underlying blame ultimately lies. The survey recorded two ratings of 5 for knowledge and courtesy, while truthfully recording that the underlying migration remained unresolved after multiple interactions.
Current status at close
- MIG-39120 remains the original migration case.
- MOD-152482 is the accepted modification request.
- HostGator has not been authorized to change DNS or files.
- HostGator has not been authorized to reinstall, overwrite, add charges, or cancel the Baby Plan.
- The migration team is expected to respond through the ticket and email.
Postscript — the operational exit was completed September 10, 2026
This August 22 record ends where that support exchange ended: with the migration still unresolved and HostGator still controlling parts of the route. It is preserved that way so the contemporary record remains honest.
The later DNS failure, KnownHost intervention, final cleanup, and independent verification are now documented in The DNS Exit and the completed migration evidence index. The final verified state places registration, authoritative DNS, website delivery, TLS, and AnyKey mail routing outside HostGator.
