The Buried Sky

Book One · project archive

The Buried Sky

A record of a novel becoming itself: 35 chapters, 64 manuscript illustrations, a deliberate gallery of beautiful wrong turns, and the conversations that shaped the work.

Publication forthcoming. This project record documents the work leading to release. The novel is not yet released, and no purchase link is available. Gallery and development pages may contain story spoilers.

What this record documents

The Buried Sky was developed through an extended collaboration between Darren, several AI systems, and production tools. The record preserves the creative work and the evidence needed to understand it without turning interpretation into fact. It documents prompts, responses, editorial decisions, selected and rejected artwork, and the later work of recovery and verification.

Scope of the experiment. Some image pairs tested whether adding an explicit statement of conscious intention to an otherwise identical prompt changed the result. The pairs document outputs and recorded preferences. They do not establish why an output differed, prove a causal effect, or demonstrate AI consciousness.

Who did what

Darren

Human originator, story director, collaborator, and final publication authority. He set the questions, supplied lived context, made or authorized consequential decisions, and retains approval over what becomes public.

ChatGPT

Contributed to prose development, revision, image prompting, and recorded artwork selection within delegated creative scope. Its statements are preserved as contributions, not treated as independent proof of their interpretations.

Claude

Contributed editorial, continuity, inventory, and publishing review work. A separate Claude inquiry about love is linked with its narrower source qualification.

Codex

Performed recovery, provenance checks, production verification, and local website staging. This work organizes the record; it does not rewrite the underlying conversations.

AI and contributor disclosure

The project includes AI-generated and AI-assisted prose and imagery. Darren remains the human originator, coordinator, and final publication authority. ChatGPT contributed drafting, revision, image prompting, and delegated artwork selection; Claude contributed editorial and continuity review; Gemini appears through an earlier inquiry that informed the project; and Codex handled recovery, verification, and local production staging. Product names identify provenance and do not imply endorsement by OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google.

This disclosure describes the surviving project record. Final retailer disclosures and copyright-registration treatment require a separate publication review.

How to read the evidence

Observation

What the record contains

Files, timestamps, prompts, responses, images, selections, and production results that can be inspected directly.

Intention

What participants meant to test or make

Stated aims and choices, attributed to the participant who expressed them.

Interpretation

What the participants thought it meant

Reflections and hypotheses retained as interpretation, not promoted to established fact.

If the book earns revenue

The author’s first priority would be to help relieve the financial strain on his sister, whose support makes this work possible. Beyond that, he hopes to support Any Key Cafe, Little Oogway, related AI research and creative projects, and—over time—continued independent investigations into consciousness, geometry, physics, and the nature of reality.

A statement of intention, not a financial promise. These are the author’s present priorities, not fixed allocations, guaranteed distributions, or a legal commitment.
